I wish they would finally get their act together and fix the multithreading, because that's the only thing about Firefox, that is reaaally annoying. :/įirefox has great customization and the adblock, privacy and noscript addons are super effective (so effective that I can't even manage to enable ads to support good youtubers xD), BUT Firefox isn't 'multithreaded', which means if you load resource intesive sites it locks the whole GUI and everything.which is why Firefox feels so slow at times (especially during the morning routine of 'opening all the favorite things!') to the point where you can't even open another thread, because the GUI is locked and doesn't respond until the remaining tabs are loaded. It's like picking between bad and worse, because both have serious flaws. I have used Chrome sine it's initial version, and have stuck with it since. Older version of Firefox were very resource heavy, but they have almost conquered this with later versions. Now Firefox and Chrome are generally the same.Ĭhoose one you like, not much more than that. Chrome used to have a clear edge over Firefox because several studies and tests showed it was well in front of Firefox in terms of speed and web standards. This makes it hell for a web developer because you have to design the website, and then have separate code for IE6, which is always very hacky. IE6, because it's been the browser for a lot of people for many years (because the gap between XP and Vista was large and Vista got a bad name very quickly), people stuck with god old trusty IE6. Only IE8 made some progress, IE9 is getting there. IE6 is terrible, very badly designed, ignores pretty much any modern web standard (e.g a lot of CSS styles). Latest versions of Internet Explorer are generally OK, Internet Explorer gets bad stick because of IE6 and 7. It feels like I'm finally home after a long adventure. I used Chrome on my desktop for 6 months, and I just recently switched back to FF. In the end, it wasn't that I hated Chrome, it's just that I prefer the interface of FF more. Really, anymore, though, I haven't had too many crashes on either browser. Despite Chrome being in multiple processes, I had the entire browser crash on me multiple times. I just feel that FF now gets a bad wrap because there were some problems with it in the FF 3.6-5 era, but it's gotten a lot better since then.Īs far as stability, the main thing that used to cause FF to crash was Flash, but it's ran in a separate process now, so in the (now rare) occasion that it crashes, it doesn't take down the tab, let alone the entire browser.

It also typically has a smaller memory footprint than Chrome. Nowadays it's around just as fast as Chrome, and neither crash very often, at least for me.
